How to Use AI to Review Your Portfolio Before Closing Out the First Half of the Year

We're about to close out the first half of the year — and there's a question few professionals stop to ask themselves:

What actually happened with my portfolio these past six months?

Not the version in your head. The complete version — who moved forward, who stayed pending, who mentioned something important that never got followed up on.

Why this pause is worth taking

Without an intentional review, it's easy to reach August without having followed up on opportunities that were left open in March or April. Not out of carelessness — simply because the day-to-day operation consumes the time you'd need for a proper review.

This end-of-semester pause is exactly what lets you start the second half of the year with clarity, instead of the feeling that something was left unfinished.

How to do this review with AI in under 30 minutes

Step 1 — Empty what's in your head

"I'm going to briefly describe several clients from my portfolio and what happened with each one this semester. Help me identify which ones have a pending topic or an opportunity that wasn't closed: [list 8–10 clients with one brief line of context each]."

Step 2 — Prioritize what to follow up on first in July and August

"Of these clients with pending topics, which ones should I follow up with first considering the urgency of their situation and how long it's been without resolution?"

Step 3 — Prepare the reconnection message

"Help me write a short message to reconnect with a client who mentioned a few months ago that they wanted to [expand / buy equipment / open another location] and we never followed up. Make it feel natural — not like a forced apology."

What this exercise actually gives you

It's not just organization. It's the difference between closing the semester feeling like opportunities slipped by, and closing it knowing exactly which ones you're going to pick up and when.

And in a summer where we're already talking about keeping the portfolio active without sacrificing rest, this review is the foundation that makes everything else work.

And one more thing…

If in this review you identify a client with an unresolved capital need — SBA or any alternative — don't let it sit there again. Send us the case. Let's close together what the semester left open.
